The MAPS (Mentorship, Advisors, Peers, and Sponsorship) Program provides mentorship for Women In Bio members in informal small-group settings. MAPS Peer Groups are made up of women that are a mix of seniority (post doc through VP) and of industries including pharma, diagnostic, and biotech companies as well as institutions and academia. Peer groups operate by monthly meetings hosted by 2–3 group leaders to facilitate topic discussions that are relevant to the professional and career development goals of the group.
This year, MAPS will offer peer groups in a virtual, in-person, and hybrid format. Groups will be geographically based in San Diego, Irvine, and the LA areas. Following this in-person launch meeting that brings together all Southern California groups, individual groups will be able to meet once a month, either virtually or in person, based on the preferences of the group.
**The main launch event will be in San Diego (HomeLab at UCSD) with satellite locations in Irvine (University Lab Partners) and Pasadena (CSL).
Our 10th Peer Group Cohort will run from May to October 2023. Join us at the launch event and fill out our Peer Group Application before May 30, 2023, to be eligible. Participation in Peer Groups is restricted to WIB Members only. Join the WIB to participate.

About SoCal chapter: The Southern California life sciences community is a hotbed of innovation and scientific expertise. Entrepreneurs can be found throughout, and venture capitalists are investing heavily in the region. Recent reports state Southern California has the 5th (San Diego) and 8th (Los Angeles/Orange County) largest biotech hubs of the Top 10 hubs in the country.
SoCal chapter services these hubs by offering networking and mentoring programs in San Diego, Irvine, and Los Angeles. We also provide virtual support for women living and working nearby. We support women at all stages of their careers, and we welcome support and participation from men and women alike.
